Enclosed/closing-en redux (2020)
En-closed/closed-en redux considers the edges that exist between interior and exterior spaces; the boundaries separating public from the private, and vice versa. It is human nature to prefer shapes and spaces that are enclosed and, consequently, these spaces are an extension of the internal and external worlds that we experience. The line acts as the fundamental spatial representation of division, every building begins with a line and is defined by an edge.
The ‘new normal’ that has been a result of a global response to the Covid-19 pandemic blurs these worlds. Our exterior lives are now playing out within the intimate spaces of our homes, connected only by coils of internet fibres. We have unraveled years of the suburbanization process within just a few months. Unable to separate our domestic and professional lives, we have lost control of these dual narratives - the personal is now intertwined with the interpersonal.
